This month, we’re pleased to introduce you to two new team members at George Armour Ewart Architect! Cody and Aubrey come to us passionate about growth in this industry and excited to hone their skills in Knoxville architecture and design.

Keep reading to get to know them a bit better and learn a few fun facts along the way…

Cody W. Grooms, AIA, NCARB Project Architect

A native East Tennessean, Cody is a highly driven architect who believes design rooted in meaning is the most inspiring—but it can also be useful and practical in everyday life.

Cody received his Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Tennessee Knoxville, where he was an active member of the Pride of the Southland Marching Band and Army ROTC. Today, he strives to create authentic, mindful, and sustainable projects that uniquely support communities, and he’s excited to be doing so at GAEA!

“To me, architecture goes beyond designing spaces—you’ve got to get your hands dirty and champion the change you want to see. Being involved with organizations like the American Institute of Architects and Lions Club International has been great, and I’m always looking for ways to get more involved.” – Cody

Why Knoxville Architecture?

For Cody, “people” are the reason he decided to pursue a career in Knoxville architecture. Growing up as a small-town kid in Appalachia, he wasn’t exposed to inspiring architecture as much as he was inspiring people, two of whom were architects. This gave him an example of what could be, leading him to become a first-generation college graduate and join team Ewart!

According to him, working at GAEA in Knoxville is an opportunity to be part of a diverse, genuine team. He’s excited to collaborate with his colleagues on a variety of projects while remaining engaged in the community.

Fun Fact! Cody’s favorite travel experience so far was studying abroad in Finland! He attended university there for a few months and was able to explore new cultures by taking smaller trips across Europe during his time abroad.

Aubrey White, Architectural Associate

Aubrey is an architecture intern from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. A recent graduate of Iowa State University, she received her Bachelor of Architecture with minors in Urban Studies, Entrepreneurial Studies, and Sustainability.

“My education has allowed me to explore several opportunities within architecture. My focus on Urban Studies and Sustainability helped provide clarity as to what I can be doing to help preserve historic properties and mitigate the environmental impact of new construction from a design perspective. At the same time, Entrepreneurial Studies taught me a lot about what’s necessary to own and operate a firm.” – Aubrey

As she moves forward in her career, Aubrey’s goal is to pursue her Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture at UTK and become a registered horticulturist. She’s passionate about creating environmentally-conscious designs that work with nature and landscaping to preserve resources, and she’s excited to be growing alongside the team at GAEA!

Why Knoxville Architecture?

Aubrey’s initial interest in architecture came from a class on Light Building Construction in high school, where she realized her passion for designing floor plans and interior spaces. She was then led to GAEA in Knoxville for the opportunity to work on residential and commercial architecture projects across East Tennessee and beyond.

Fun Fact! In her free time, Aubrey enjoys crocheting, hiking, and spending time with her eight pets. She currently has two cats and six guinea pigs, all females!
